Vienna Waits for You

Hallo parents, professors, and blog readers alike!

After sleeping in the dormitory style bunk beds of our Viennese hostel, Jasmine, Emily N, and Emily J arose early to travel around the city with a walking tour. The tour quickly became painfully cold, even for us Midwesterners, so we diverted to an all pink cafe.

Our small meal of warm coffees and sandwiches replenished our energy sufficiently enough to trek back towards our hostel. Along the way we browsed through the famous Naschmarkt. The market offered an expansive variety of chocolates, cheeses, wine, produce, scarves, and even fresh falafel.

The famous Manner chocolate recommended by our morning tour guide will make great gifts for our loved ones back home ;)

Our new scarves (also bought at the market) kept us very warm as we left the hostel for our second big adventure: walking 30 minutes to Vienna’s famous Belvedere palace.

Although the renowned botanical gardens and flowing fountains were unfortunately closed for the winter season, the royal exterior was still unbelievably gorgeous.

Passing the market for the third time in one day, we picked up Asian street food from one of the friendliest vendors of the city. We brought our takeout to dine in the hostel lobby, allowing us to observe the interactions of our fellow hostel travelers (#PeopleWatching).

All throughout Vienna, in the midst of every single adventure, the city crosswalks featured adorable stop lights. As explained by our tour guide, Vienna is a city of love. The progressive images of same sex couples crossing the street in tandem, along with a public display of their love, is just one example of the tenderness this city holds. Writing this from the hostel bar, in the wise words of my new friend:“It costs nothing to be kind”.

Peace and love to all readers and supporters of our Number Theory journey,
(Thanks for watching after our safety and cheering on our new discoveries),
Emily Jacobson
