DAY 3 OF CLASS (1/8)

Hello young lovers! It’s Alex, Berit, and Sam coming at you live from Pest! We are here on Day 3 of class. Today Professor Berliner was rocking a St. Olaf sweatshirt and jeans as blue as the Mississippi skies. (Shoutout Sydney for being from Mississippi and thus knowing the color of the sky and its likeness to Berliner's jeans).

Sam (code name: Flower Child), Berit, and Alex started their day bright and early around 7:30am, and made their way down to breakfast to greet the troops.

As they say, an apple a day keeps the doctor away. In Budapest, the Hungarian translation actually sums up to "nutella in the hotel espresso machine latte readies the mind for a day of learning." How topical!

Nutella Latte! #nutallergiesbeware

Breakfast time is a time for scheming. Plotting, even. Today's scheme was built on the basis of whimsy and exploration. Long story short, we're Lime Scootering to school today.

meeting of the minds

After drafting Emily into our scooter gang, we set off on an adventure. We've got the need for speed, the need for fresh Budapest air, and the need to get to school on time!! All these goals were accomplished this morning, despite getting semi-lost not once, not twice, but three separate times. (we are all still friends) (why does Google Maps not have Lime Scooter specific navigation? #getonthatcompscimajors)

Number Theory in session (aka time to lock in hehe)! Professor Berliner gave a fabulous lesson on the Euclidean Theorem and Diophantine Equations. We solved some equations and did lots of thinking about the greatest common divisor (not pictured: us stroking our chins in thought).

After our math lesson, we took a lunch break. Flower Child, Alex, Berit, and Sydney took a stroll to a cafe to grab a latte (& meet a cutie dog!!). We hopped around a couple other bakeries and stores (shoutout SZUPER DISKONT) to satisfy all our lunch needs, then headed back to school to start our Hungarian lesson.

Jó napot Emese!! Today we learned some more common phrases in order to describe ourselves. We also enjoyed learning some helpful phrases to use when we go to the Hungarian market later in the week.

We decided that one LIME Scooter ride was simply not enough!! Had to go again! Picked up a couple extra classmates this time (the army is growinggg). We saw some lovely sights along the way, including this cool church by our classroom space.

cuties on LIME scooties!

look at those towers! so cool!

The Budapest wind blew a group of us over to Bouldering Academy Budapest (located inside a Budapest mall) for some bouldering action! Let us tell you, the Skoglund climbing wall is dearly missed, but this place is awesome! They even have a dog (hint hint nudge nudge St. Olaf).

Here is a collection of super cool climbing pics with our super cool climbers!!

.5 group photos from the wall!!! (climbed up to place the phone #fitness)

After our students built up an appetite from climbing all those walls (maybe just put a ladder there next time hmm) we headed to the food court where we had some dinner, gushed about our cheap food, and used some teamwork to get Ben both of his juices (mango and lychee yum!) at the same time (success! thank you helpers Tim and Holden! Teamwork truly makes the dream work).

The food court was lovely, however, our sweet tooth NEEDED to be satisfied. Luckily, a boba shop is right next to our hotel (#staywinning).

Finally, back to the hotel for some homework. Student-athletes (emphasis on student) do your thing!

A lovely day in lovely little Budapest. Stay tuned for more lovely days coming soon!

It's been an honor and a privilege.

  2. I'm enjoying the updates and photos! BUT I was disappointed there wasn't a pic of Professor Berliner's "jeans as blue as the Mississippi skies. (Shoutout Sydney for being from Mississippi and thus knowing the color of the sky and its likeness to Berliner's jeans)." Seems like a missed opportunity?!
Hi, Adam! All is well in the neighborhood.
